Cricket club
Woodchurch CC currently has just one team in the Kent Village Cricket League, but the side performed well in the 2007 season, finishing runner-up in Division 3 (of 7 divisions) and thus gaining promotion to Division 2.
Skippered by Kevin Penfold, the team won 8 of its 11 fixtures, losing two (and surprisingly having only one game washed out), and gaining an excellent 14 bonus points in the by-going. In the 40-over format, star batting performers were Jim Whiting (307, including 101* against Eastchurch) and Mark Paine (289). Best bowlers were Nathan Willis with 23 wickets, Keith May (17) and Richard Davy (15). Nathan’s 6 – 20 against Mersham Le Hatch, Keith’s 5 – 9 against Beltinge, and Richard’s 5 -28 against division winners Headcorn were highlights.
Celia Davy and her team of tea-ladies maintained our reputation for the best teas in the league, and groundsmen Ian and Richard Davy guaranteed good pitches. Our thanks to them all.
If you would like to get involved with the club as a player or in any other capacity (we have missed a secretary for some time now!), get in touch with chairman Tony Mobbs (860425) or skipper Kevin Penfold (07989 382595). It would be great to revive our Colts teams, but we do need parental support.
