Football club
The football club was formed back in the early 1900s. We have records back to 1921 but think there was football in the village well before the turn of the century. We became members of the Ashford league back in 1952 and are one of only two clubs that have played continously in the league since then. We play on the lovely village green and use the sports pavilion along with the cricket club. It has changing rooms and showers with a small club room for meetings and a kitchen for teas etc. Along with the cricket club and Parish Council we help maintain the playing areas of the village green.
We currently run one adult team and play on Saturday afternoons in the Ashford and District League comprising 11 teams playing home and away, mostly in the local area. Our most recent success was in the 2001-2 season when we won a league and cup double in Div 2 of the league and also a challenge cup for both divisions.
We are a friendly club and are always looking for new talent and members. All welcome (players must be 16+). For more information contact the Secretary Ian Davy. T: 01233 860534 E: toppieman@aol.com
