The Museum
Woodchurch Village Life Museum was opened in 2001, and tells the story of the Parish from the earliest times. It is situated on Susans Hill and is accommodated in an C18 barn and a C17 cart shed, both of which were re-erected from their former location some 10 miles away with the assistance of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant. It is a Registered Museum and a Registered Charity, and is run entirely by volunteers.
Its collection has an almost entirely Woodchurch provenance and consists of both objects and archives, many of which have been donated by present or former local residents. In addition, it acts as a “one stop shop” for the study of Woodchurch history through its Study Centre, which includes copies of many Woodchurch records held elsewhere, such as County and Ecclesiastical archives. It has close ties with both the Woodchurch Local History Society and the Woodchurch Ancestry Group (WAG). It is also active with Primary Schools, and runs a number of initiatives, both at the Museum and through outreach activities.
During the summer (Easter to end of September) it is open daily (except Mondays and Wednesdays). Outside this period it opens at weekends, except for December and January when it is closed. Normal opening hours are 10am to 4pm. The Study Centre is open by prior appointment at any time, as are party visits. Admission is £2 for adults; children of school age are currently free. Party visits are by donation.
